ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Special Operations Joint Task Force-Levant (SOJTF) has provided a multi-week Close Quarter Battle Course for their Iraqi Kurdish counterparts, the official Twitter account US-led Special Operations Joint Task Force-Levant (SOJTF LEVANT) announced on Thursday.

“Coalition special operators continue to partner with Iraqi forces in an advise, assist and enabling role to deter, disrupt, and destroy Daesh (ISIS) efforts,” the official account for the US Special Operations Joint Task Force-Levant (SOJTF LEVANT) tweeted.

SOJTF LEVANT oversees activities in Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Egypt.

The SOJTF LEVANT tweet also showed a picture of a soldier of the Italian Joint Special Operations Task Force 44 Operazione Centuria training Kurdish special forces in an undisclosed location.

“As we shift to our #AdviseAssistEnable role, the objective remains the same — building our partners capacity is the key to sustaining our joint success in the anti-Daesh (Arabic acronym for ISIS) fight,” the official account of the Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR), the official name of the US-led coalition, against ISIS tweeted about the training.

“With our ISF (Iraqi Security Forces)/Peshmerga partners we are committed to the lasting #DefeatDaesh.”

US President Joe Biden and Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi agreed in July to end the US combat mission in Iraq by Dec. 31, 2021. After that date, coalition troops will transition solely to training, advising, and assisting Iraqi and Kurdish forces. Moreover, the US-led coalition will remain in Iraq under the invitation of the Iraqi government.

Last week a Colonel-level logistics headquarters moved from Iraq to Kuwait.

According to coalition officials, this is a “demonstrative step” towards concluding the transition from a combat mission to an advise, assist and enable role in the coming weeks.
