KDP to nominate Hoshyar Zebari for Iraqi president

Zebari, born in 1953, has served as Iraq's foreign minister between 2004-2014 and was finance minister until September 2016.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) will nominate senior political bureau member Hoshyar Zebari for the position of the President of the Republic of Iraq, local media reported on Wednesday.

Zebari, born in 1953, has served as Iraq's foreign minister between 2004-2014 and was finance minister until September 2016.

The Iraqi parliament opened the door to would-be president candidates on Jan. 10. Lawmakers have to hold a session to elect a nominee no later than Feb. 8.
