ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani condemned Friday’s attack on Baghdad International Airport.

“I condemn today’s terror attacks on Baghdad International Airport in the strongest terms, and urge Iraqi leaders to unanimously do the same,” the prime minister tweeted.

“The repeated attacks, including on Erbil International Airport in the past threaten the country, its peoples and our shared security,” he added.

On Friday, six rockets were fired at Baghdad airport, damaging an “out-of-service” Iraqi Airways plane there. The attack did not disrupt flights. There were no immediate claims of responsibility.

The Kurdistan Region Presidency earlier issued a similar statement condemning attack.

“The constant destabilizing efforts are dangerous developments and must be thwarted,” the statement said.

The attack was the latest in a series of attacks on Baghdad, many against the capital city’s heavily fortified Green Zone, where the US embassy and many important government buildings are located.

Baghdad airport also hosts the Baghdad Diplomatic Support Center, which belongs to the US State Department.

US C-RAM systems in Baghdad are often used to intercept these rockets before theyt hit their targets.

Such attacks sometimes result in civilian causalities. For example, two civilians civilians were injured in the Jan. 26 rocket attack that targeted the residence of Mohammad al-Halbousi, the Iraqi speaker of Parliament, in Anbar.
