Parliament approves 25 candidates for Iraqi presidency

According to political observers, Hoshyar Zebari, whose name is on the approved list, has the best chance of winning.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Iraqi Parliament announced the names of the approved candidates for Iraq’s presidency on Monday. 

The parliament approved 25 names for the candidacy, ten of them are Kurds. 

According to political observers, Hoshyar Zebari, whose name is on the approved list, has the best chance of winning.

“The positions in Kurdistan Regional Government have nothing to do with the positions in Baghdad, and no political party has the ownership of any position in Baghdad,” Deputy Speaker of Kurdistan Parliament Hemin Hawrami told a press conference on Monday.

“There are political and election mechanisms through which the positions in Baghdad are distributed.”
